Short answer

Treat an unexpected deal email as unverified until the opportunity, sender, and destination match.

Three checks before you open the link

Check whether the brand and campaign match the opportunity you were told about.
Check the sender and the link destination, not just the display name.
Confirm anything unfamiliar with the person you already know, using a known channel.

A familiar brand name alone does not prove an email is genuine. Never enter payment details from a suspicious link.
